Jet2.com flies into Budapest from Edinburgh

Budapest Airport welcomed Jet2.com’s second scheduled service to the Central European hub on 21st April when the UK’s fastest growing airline landed at 10.35 on the first flight in a year round schedule between Edinburgh, Scotland, and Budapest, Hungary.

On 16th May Budapest Airport welcomed the first airBaltic flight linking the Hungarian captial city with the Latvian capital city of Riga.

SkyTeam Day at Budapest Airport

SkyTeam alliance members celebrated the opening of a new joint ticket office in Terminal 2A at Budapest Airport. To mark the occasion June 2 has been named SkyTeam day by the airport with events including an official opening ceremony and the visit of several alliance liveried aircraft of member airlines.

Budapest Airport Triumphs as European Champion in Routes Europe Airport Marketing Awards


Budapest Airport has been announced as the overall winner of this year’s Routes Airport Marketing Awards during the Gala Dinner at the Routes Europe forum at the luxurious Forte Village resort in Cagliari, Italy. More than 700 aviation professionals gathered for the 6th Routes Europe conference.

Budapest Airport reports busiest May on record

Budapest Airport handled more than 776,704 passengers last month, seeing its busiest month of May ever. Additionally the first five months of 2011 cumulative generated 3,163,412 passengers, another all time record. The airport saw an increase of 8.3% in passenger traffic over May 2010 and an increase of 13.1% year to date (January to May) compared to the same period last year. These results follow hard on the heels of strong first quarter results that were well ahead of both the EU average and Budapest’s peer airports within the central and eastern Europe region.

Budapest Airport organizes nationwide roadshow

Budapest Airport toured Hungary and some nearby cities in neighboring countries as part of a road show spanning several weeks. Every year, visiting the so-called catchment area of the airport provides an opportunity to hold important events, where the airport operator can meet with the representatives of airlines and the tourism industry face to face.

Budapest Airport was awarded a prestigious accolade due to the very precise calculation and forecasting of 2010 passenger traffic data. This year the company which manufactured the planning software handed over the cup in Athens, whereby Budapest Airport even surpassed large Western European airports such as Hamburg and Amsterdam.

Malév head office on airport

The complete management and headquarters of MALÉV will move to Budapest Airport where three office buildings will be refurbished by the summer of 2012 to accommodate about 600 employees of the national carrier.

Wizz Air moves to the airport

Following the successful handover of the facility, Wizz Air began to move into its new headquarters at Budapest Airport, the former CRDS building, in early June. This brings the one-and-a-half year project to a successful end, since the story started back in 2009. It is a huge success for the colleagues who took part in the project, since we managed to lure Wizz, a highly cost-sensitive company, to the airport from an office park in nearby Vecsés.

Turkish Airlines opens new airport office

At 1st of June 2011. Turkish Airlines, the Turkish national carrier welcomes passengers in a new location on the mezzanine level of Terminal 2A at Budapest Airport. At the opening ceremony, the country manager of Türk Hava Yollari, or THY, spoke of significant route development plans.
